I found Pilates while at University, running from one extramural activity to the next. I enjoyed a passionate 23-year love affair with dance and in my other free time played competitive racquet sports. Pilates shifted my perspective to include breathing, embracing my intuitive self and leading me to find more balanced cross training techniques.
A 2007 graduate of the BASI’s Comprehensive Teacher Training Program , I spent the foundation years of my teaching career, working under the wing of Mentor Theo Botha, Principle Faculty for BASI Pilates and BASI Pilates South Africa in her studio in Pretoria. I was lucky to attend a Learn from the Leaders Symposium, organised by Theo in my first year at her studio and had the honour to meet Rael.
In 2010 I joined my partner in New Zealand and found a home amongst the physio pilates studio team. The only BASI Graduate in the country at the time, it was a lifeline when Rael presented at a conference in Sydney in 2011 and the studio encourage me to connect to The Source.
In 2013 I started working alongside an osteopath at The Pilates Workshop and the exposure to both osteopathy and physiotherapy have shaped my voice inside studios in Auckland.
It has been a privilege to expose the New Zealand market to BASI Pilates and our numbers and influence continue to grow in the market. As Continues Education is such an important part of enhancing our skill sets, I continue to invest in and share my experience.
When not in the studio teaching or practicing, I enjoy running & hiking through the epic New Zealand landscape, 'gathering' with my free diving, spearfishing husband and exploring the Garuda Method where I continue to explore movement built on versatility and intuition.

For most of his life, Mike was a competitive athlete. While attending the University of Oregon, he competed on the wrestling team for four years as an NCAA Division One athlete. Upon completing his degree in Sociology and retiring from the sport, Mike found that he was suffering from numerous physical ailments that had been accumulated over the span of his athletic career. With very little luck in physical therapy, he figured his ailments were simply ‘a part of life.’ It wasn’t until Mike’s two-year service as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Kyrgyz Republic when he found a book on Pilates. It was during this time that Mike learned the basic techniques of Pilates and has been practicing ever since. With a foundation in Pilates, Mike is able to pursue the activities he once thought he would never again be able to do. Mike enjoys surfing, running, and rock climbing.
